The Department of Adult Education seeks to instill a desire and appreciation for lifelong learning for all adults in the city of Portsmouth.  Our department provides many varied opportunities for adults to participate in classes and programs that will meet their needs for continuing education.

Orientation Schedule:
9:00 am - 1:00 pm or 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm (Student must attend part I and part II of the same week to complete placement testing.)
Monday / Wednesday 
Tuesday / Thursday

Location: Stephen H. Clarke Academy - 2801 Turnpike Road

Group I students begin on Monday, August 17 / Group II students begin on Tuesday, August 18 for PART I - complete ASPD (Adult Student Profile Document) and Locator test (determines a student’s academic levels--baseline data.)
Group I students return on Wednesday, August 19 / Group II students return on Thursday, August 20 for PART II - complete a survey to determine what time they want to attend classes virtually, need training on ZOOM, or distance learning sites.  TABE tests skills and aptitudes in reading, math, and English.
Testing will begin on time.  New students must contact the Adult Ed. office at (757) 393-8822 to be registered for testing.
